Inflammatory Arthritis

Morning stiffness lasting greater than one hour suggests inflammatory arthritis.  Disorders such as RA, PMR, and SLE commonly cause prolonged morning stiffness.  Stiffness of OA typically causes only transient stiffness in the morning and improves as the joint warms up, only to recur later after periods of inactivity.
